Temporal Analysis of Ground Movement at a Metal Mine in China

Mining-induced ground movement is a complicated nonlinear process and regional geological hazard. Time series in Earth sciences are often characterized as self-affine, long-range persistent, where the power spectra exhibit power-law dependence on frequency. Whether there exists periodic signal fundamental frequency time significant analyzing ground-movement patterns. To evaluate whether law describes of exists, GPS monitoring records taken over 14.5 years describing Jinchuan Nickel Mine, China, were analyzed. The data sets consisted 500 randomly selected points, spanning April 2001–October 2015 period. movements existed was determined through autocorrelation function. found to display behavior vastly different timescales. spectral exponents horizontal vertical displacements ranged from 0.47 3.58 0.43 3.37, with mean values 2.05 1.79, respectively. minefields No.1 No.2 had 1.1-month 1.4-month periods, Together discussion underlying mechanisms relevant influencing factors, these results indicate that type self-affine persistence scale invariance show complex periodicity. These conclusions provide basis for predicting land subsidence study area timescale.
